May 7th Cyclofemme Ride Recap

Our big season kickoff for 2016 was Cyclofemme, a global women’s ride event that happens annually on Mother’s Day. Like last year, Bicycle Habitat Women’s Cycling hosted a special Saturday edition. Now in our second year of programming, we’ve learned many things about how to better serve our riders and applied those lessons to this event. Even through the weather was ominous and poured rain two hours before the start, the day was a great success. The city felt fresh, trees and flowers were in bloom, and there was almost no wind. It was the perfect spring riding conditions.

Gold ride on Route 9W

We planned three routes to accommodate every level of rider, and named them in honor of the Summer Olympics in Rio. Women of all ages and abilities gathered at Bicycle Habitat Soho to embark on their selected journey. The GOLD ride focused on group riding and paceline skills on Route 9W with a coffee break at The Market. The SILVER ride was designed to introduce beginner road riders to the cycling wonderland that lies on the other side of the George Washington Bridge with a stop at the historic Fort Lee Park. BRONZE riders went up the scenic west side of Manhattan to the Red Lighthouse for some mid-ride yoga.

We want to thank everyone who braved wet roads to join us for this ride. You are the reason we do this! All our riders are fantastic, amazing, interesting women and we are so glad to know each and every one of you. It’s our mission to help you meet your goals in cycling, and to facilitate stellar service and support at Bicycle Habitat. Meeting others who share a love of bikes is what it’s all about.

We also want to give a big shout out to Trek Bicycles for their support of this program. Four of our leaders are Trek Advocates, and we are proud to represent a brand that cares so much about women’s cycling. We are riding the Emonda SL8 Women’s, so feel free to ask us anything about it, anytime.

We have an exciting announcement coming in the next few days, and will plan another weekend ride here shortly along with some clinics. In the mean time, please take advantage of the park rides that happen every week in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Join our Facebook group and email list to stay up to date on all that is to come. The season is just getting started!
