2017 Ride Descriptions

Descriptions for our recurring rides are listed below. Please join our Facebook group (Women’s Cycling NYC) to be notified when sign up is available. Note: sign up is required prior to arrival. Twice a month rides (April-Sept)


Prospect Park Intermediate-level road ride

Every other Tuesday, join us for a friendly, intermediate-level road ride with average pace of 15-18mph. We will ride as a group and paceline instruction will be given. Meet at Grand Army Plaza at the start of West Drive at 6:25 for 6:30am rollout. Leader will be in a Bicycle Habitat kit. Sign up is required before you arrive. Please join our Facebook group (Women’s Cycling NYC) to be notified when sign up is available, along with any other updates. Road bikes and foot retention highly recommended. We will ride 4 laps together (approx. 1 hour). Led by BHWC leader Star Sawyer.

 


Central Park All-Levels road ride

Every other Wednesday, join us for a friendly, all-levels road ride with average pace of 12-18mph. We start out together and may sort into different groups, depending on experience. Each ride will focus on group riding, often working on paceline skills and other techniques. Meet at Loeb Boathouse at 6:25 for 6:30am rollout. Leader(s) will be in a Bicycle Habitat kit. Sign up is required before you arrive. Please join our Facebook group (Women’s Cycling NYC) to be notified when sign up is available, along with any other updates. Road bikes and foot retention highly recommended. We will ride 3 laps together (approx. 1 hour). Led by BHWC leaders Jeanne Meyer, Blythe Austin, and Alexa Wilson.

Bicycle Habitat Intermediate-level Shop Ride (Co-ed)

Every other Friday, join Bicycle Habitat for an intermediate-level road ride to 9W Market (50 miles) with average pace of 14-16mph. This ride is co-ed and open to everyone. Riders should come prepared with their own tools and supplies. Road bikes with drop handlebars and foot retention required. Sign up/waiver will be completed when you arrive. Meet at Bicycle Habitat Soho at 8:15 for 8:30am rollout. Led by long time cyclist and BH mechanic Sam Koenig.

 

 

 


Once a month rides (April-Sept)


Get back into riding! Beginner road ride

If you’re new to riding and want to get to know your bike, or if you’ve taken a break and are ready to get back in the saddle, this is the ride for you! Offered once a month on Tuesday evenings, this ride will have average pace of 10-12mph and is no drop. Hybrid and road bikes welcome. Meet at Grand Army Plaza at the start of West Drive at 6:25 for 6:30pm rollout. Leader will be in a Bicycle Habitat kit. Sign up is required before you arrive. Please join our Facebook group (Women’s Cycling NYC) to be notified when sign up is available, along with any other updates. We will do 3-4 laps together (approx 1 hour). Led by Emily Samstag (BHWC Co-Founder, Trek Women’s Advocate).

 

Mountain bike ride

Once a month on Saturday morning, join us for mountain bike laps at Cunningham Park in Queens. Located a short ride from the F train and LIRR, Cunningham is the most accessible mountain bike system in NYC. Meet at the main trailhead on 210th Street at 67th Avenue at 8:15 for 8:30am rollout. Ride details will be posted the week prior in our Facebook group (Women’s Cycling NYC) and sign up is required before you arrive. The leader will be there to guide and answer questions, then you are encouraged┬áto continue riding and practice new skills. Harlem Hill Repeats! Intermediate/Advanced road ride

Once a month on Thursday morning, join us for 5-10 repeats of Harlem Hill at a brisk pace. After a warm up, we will test our climbing legs up Harlem Hill. Learn a concrete training skill, and no matter what fitness level you are. Some will climb faster, some slower, but all can do it. Meet at Loeb Boathouse at 6:25 for 6:30am rollout. Leader will be in a Bicycle Habitat kit. Led by Lisa Mazzola (BHWC ride leader, Art of Cycling Coach, and CRCA Women’s Development Coach).

 

 

 

Saturday road ride

Once a month, join us for a road ride over the GWB to a destination outside NYC. Ride details will be posted the week prior in our Facebook group (Women’s Cycling NYC) and sign up is required before you arrive. We will all ride up the West Side bike path together to the Red Lighthouse. Riders are then able to either turn around, or continue. Road bikes and foot retention are required for any rider continuing over the bridge. Meet at Bicycle Habitat Soho at 8:15 for 8:30am rollout.
